Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

DualFiler (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your personal information. This policy is designed to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, “CCPA/CPRA”) and the Canadian Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”).

1. Information We Collect

DualFiler is designed to minimize data collection. We do not collect, store, or process any personally identifiable information (“PII”). Specifically:

  • We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or mailing address (unless you voluntarily provide an email for our newsletter).
  • We do not collect Social Security Numbers (SSN), Social Insurance Numbers (SIN), Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN), or any government-issued identification numbers.
  • We do not collect bank account numbers, credit card numbers, or other financial account information.
  • We do not collect specific income amounts, tax owed, or refund amounts.
  • We do not require you to create an account or log in to use the Platform.

All inputs you provide to our wizard, calculators, and tools are processed entirely within your browser session. No user-entered data is transmitted to our servers or stored in any database.

2. Google Analytics 4 Disclosure

We use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”) to understand how visitors interact with the Platform. GA4 may collect the following categories of data:

  • Device information: Browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, device category (mobile, desktop, tablet).
  • Interaction data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, scroll depth, button clicks, and navigation paths.
  • Traffic source data: Referring website, search engine query (when available), campaign parameters (UTM tags).
  • Approximate geographic location: City-level geolocation derived from your IP address. We have enabled IP anonymization (anonymize_ip: true) to truncate your IP address before it is stored by Google.
  • Session data: Session ID, session duration, number of sessions.

GA4 data is processed by Google LLC in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy. We do not send any personally identifiable information to Google Analytics. We do not use Google Signals or User-ID features.

3. Google AdSense Disclosure

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on the Platform. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Specifically:

  • Google’s use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your browsing history.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on user visits.
  • You may opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

4. Cookies

We use the following categories of cookies:

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off. They include session cookies and cookie consent preference cookies. They do not store any personally identifiable information.

Analytics Cookies (Google Analytics 4)

These cookies allow us to measure and analyze how visitors use the Platform so we can improve its content and functionality. Cookies include _ga, _ga_*, which are set by Google Analytics. These cookies expire after 2 years of inactivity.

Advertising Cookies (Google AdSense)

These cookies are used by Google AdSense to serve relevant advertisements. They track your browsing activity across websites to build a profile of your interests. You can opt out of personalized ads through Google’s ad settings or the cookie consent mechanism on this Platform.

For full details on cookie types, durations, and management, see our Cookie Policy.

5. No Data Storage — Session Only

All data you enter into the DualFiler wizard, calculators, and tools is processed entirely within your browser session using client-side JavaScript. When you close your browser tab or navigate away from the Platform, all entered data is permanently discarded. We do not store, log, cache, or transmit any user-entered data to our servers. There is no user database, no backend data store, and no server-side processing of your tax-related inputs.

6. Data Retention

Because we do not collect or store personal data, there is no personal data to retain. Google Analytics data is retained according to Google’s default retention settings (14 months), after which it is automatically deleted. We do not export or archive GA4 data to any other system. Advertising cookie data is managed and retained by Google in accordance with Google’s data retention policies.

7. Your Rights Under CCPA/CPRA (California Residents)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you. Because we do not collect PII, any such request would result in a confirmation that no personal data is held.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of personal information we have collected. Because we collect no PII, there is no data to delete.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information. As we hold no PII, this right is not applicable.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA. Google Analytics and AdSense data processing is governed by our data processing agreements with Google.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by the CPRA.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@dualfiler.com.

8. Your Rights Under PIPEDA (Canadian Residents)

If you are a Canadian resident, you have the following rights under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act:

  • Right of Access: You have the right to request access to any personal information we hold about you. As we do not collect or store PII, we will confirm that no personal data is held.
  • Right to Correction: You may request correction of any personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: You may withdraw your consent for the collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information at any time by adjusting your cookie settings or contacting us directly.
  • Right to Complain: You have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe your privacy rights have been violated.

Our privacy practices align with PIPEDA’s ten fair information principles: accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection, limiting use disclosure and retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and challenging compliance.

9. Children’s Privacy

The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in jurisdictions where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information promptly. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@dualfiler.com.

10. International Data Transfers

Google Analytics and Google AdSense data may be processed by Google in the United States or other countries where Google maintains data centers. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that your analytics and advertising data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in a country other than your country of residence. We rely on Google’s data processing agreements and standard contractual clauses for any such transfers.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify users through a notice on the Platform. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our privacy practices.
